Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates the tool. That provider processes the request and supplies the response. Ocean County Criminal History does not keep or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or contact submission may be retained long enough to review it and respond. The message is kept within our organization and is not disclosed outside it unless the law requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers automatically receive basic technical information when a visitor opens a page, including:
- The pages viewed, along with the time spent on them
- Your device category and operating system
- The date and time associated with each page request
- Your browser type and version
- The referring website, when one is available
- The Internet Protocol address used by your device
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device to help measure how the site is used, such as which Ocean County resources receive the most visits and where sessions end. Analytics providers combine that activity into traffic reports. A visitor may block cookies through browser controls, although disabling them can change how some site functions behave.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Ocean County Criminal History neither builds nor sells a database of personal criminal-record details. Its content identifies official record custodians and explains access routes through the sheriff's records unit, New Jersey courts, the New Jersey State Police State Bureau of Identification, and the New Jersey Sex Offender Internet Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into a consumer report or a record about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search functions. Information submitted through one of those tools is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices, which Ocean County Criminal History cannot direct. Read the provider's terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Ocean County offices, Judiciary portals, New Jersey agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows such a link, the destination's privacy policy controls the visit. Review that policy before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may use activity across multiple websites to select relevant advertisements. Any such cross-site tracking occurs through the provider's systems, not systems operated by Ocean County Criminal History.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold. It may be disclosed to or processed by:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and technical performance
- A search partner that receives a query submitted through its tool
- A government body or law-enforcement agency acting under a valid legal order
- Advertising networks that deliver ads on the site
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect the information collected through the site. No Internet-based system can guarantee perfect security, however, so Ocean County Criminal History cannot promise that unauthorized access or a data breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under age 18. If information from a minor is brought to our attention, it will be removed promptly.
Your Data Rights
New Jersey law treats access to public government files differently from the controlled release of criminal history record information. The Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., and the CHRI dissemination rules in N.J.S.A. 53:1-20.6 and N.J.A.C. 13:59 do not transform site analytics into a public criminal record. Other privacy requirements may create additional rights. At a minimum, a visitor may:
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Ask for deletion of personal data
- Obtain a copy of personal information held about them
- Decline certain forms of data processing
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised as practices or requirements change. A new version becomes available on this page and displays a revised effective date, so visitors should review it periodically.
